21 April 2021 Share English wines experiencing significant growth. While England might not rival the great wine regions of France but Wines of Great Britain (WineGB) reports that sales of English wines continue to go from strength to strength.

WineGB is raising a glass to domestic producers as industry figures reveal that sales of English and Welsh wines increased by around 30% in 2020 over the previous year.

Demand has increased for English and Welsh wines as consumers look to support local or regional wine producers, and the increase of a boom in wine tourism as UK holidaymakers are increasingly taking staycations.

Furthermore, Industry data also shows that nearly 2000 hectares of vines have been planted in the last five years, doubling hectarage over that time, making wine production one of the fastest-growing agricultural sectors in the UK.

There are over 700 vineyards in Britain today with many open to the public offering a range of experiences. Vineyards from Cornwall to Yorkshire now offer a wide range of experiences, which include restaurants and visitor centres and even accommodation as well as tours, tastings and cellar door sales.
